When your laundry area is organized and appealing, it makes doing laundry more enjoyable, if that is possible. Here are some helpful tips to decorating the laundry room.
What room is it? The laundry room. Almost every home has a laundry room and it is usually the room that catches everything from video games that got left in the pockets to money including loose change.
Take a little while to decide what type of theme you want to place in this room. The theme can be of the beach, your favorite NASCAR driver, or something you like to collect. You can even make the laundry room look old fashioned. For example, have an antique washboard on the wall.
Most laundry rooms are small but try to fit a chair and purchase a book holder that can hang on the back of the chair to hold a magazine or book that you can read while the washer is going.
The walls can consist of personal artwork and messages from your children. This is encouraging and it will give you inspiration while you are cleaning those set in stains that mysteriously appear when the kids go outside.
Place a sewing basket in the laundry room so you can sew buttons or patch jeans that may tear. You don’t need a big sewing basket, just one that holds needle, thread, and scissors.
Don’t be afraid to organize your laundry room. Because everything is placed in the pockets, you will need a place to store the items until it is returned to its owner. Place some baskets on the shelves above the washer. You don’t want to keep the laundry room cluttered so it’s important to have a place for everything.
Designate two days a week for laundry day if possible. For small families you may just need one day but for large families you may need to wash clothes more often. You don’t want to be stuck in the laundry room every day washing a load of clothes so to avoid that you can designate laundry days. Let everyone know in the house that you have laundry days and all laundry will need to be ready to go if it is to be washed. You shouldn’t have to go into your teen’s room in order to pick up their clothes. It should be their responsibility to have the clothes in a basket and ready for you to pick up. Buy some mesh bags or mesh laundry baskets to place in everyone’s room for the laundry.
Place small round rugs in the floor. Area rugs are a great way to make a statement and provide comfort while you are standing on your feet.
Over the years, laundry rooms have been a negative room to be in because we relate it to chores. Now is your chance to turn it around and create a room that you don’t mind going into.
